It parallels that adage. I wrote that thought down several years ago during a bad break up or more precisely after the fact when I was analyzing the character of my ex and reflecting on a more general preferred human experience. Loving others through one's self (have confidence, love and respect for yourself and spread it outwards to others-benevolent) rather than loving one's self through others (needing other people's approval, attention, energy in order to feel loved or good- selfish) ;o
