evanesce 1 - 2010

Bam! Felt like the tethers were cut on this one. The name is somewhat of a dichotomy of the image since it is frozen in time and tangible but the essence I hope is what is being captured. This was an approach atypical of my usual but definitely emancipating as, prior to this, I felt I was painting myself into a corner... eww. Horrible pun. None the less, I found it very exciting and has lent itself as a rejuvenated springboard for further exploration of expression.

I apologize for the glare.

Evanesce 1 is acrylic on canvas and is 24in H x 24in W in dimension

Cool one J, striking with the new background. From my eyes it looks like a beaded curtain dripping down in front of a view of a sandy beach... :) relaxed, warm and inviting. Your title made me use my dictionary... looking up new words here... so here it is in a sentence...'the kids' rainy-day gloom evanesced the minute they heard that we were going out for ice cream'... have you been dissipating gloom? If so it looks like it's pretty good on the other side!

To me, this one is a depiction of the yin and yang of our world with another; whereby, the total of good and evil can only total 100% and there is a maximum of good and bad that can be experienced in both worlds. One can see into the next and see the misery or conversely the joy being experienced by those around. The drips might also be a barrier of sorts - bars that prevent movement of both physicality and emotion. Having had the benefit of a closer inspection, the drips are actually a composition of beautiful colour combinations. A typical observations might suggest that bars are equated to evil/incarceration/undesired; however, in this case, the bars are a glimpse into what is actually the desired world or state of being. Being on the other side, you never actually get to see what's going on in it's entirety - rather as I earlier stated, a glimpse into what COULD have been had we taken a different path in life or decision.

Therefore, I believe the "other side" is the lesser desired place d'etre.
